Parallel Optical Snow and Sampling Importance Re-sampling (SIR)

چکیده

Parallel optical snow is a particular kind of image sequence where all of the objects move parallel to one another. The problem is to determine the direction of this parallel optical snow. It has been shown that there exists a solution to this problem via a Fourier transform. Our objective is to solve this problem without using a Fourier transform. Instead, we use Sampling Importance Re-sampling (SIR) modified to suit our particular purposes. Our results show that this is a reliable method, which can find the solution to parallel optical snow after only observing two frames of the image sequence.

Sequential Importance Sampling for Visual Tracking Reconsidered

We consider the task of filtering dynamical systems observed in noise by means of sequential importance sampling when the proposal is restricted to the innovation components of the state. It is argued that the unmodified sequential importance sampling/resampling (SIR) algorithm may yield high variance estimates of the posterior in this case, resulting in poor performance when e.g. in visual tra...

Estimation of snow water equivalence using SIR-C/X-SAR. II. Inferring snow depth and particle size

The relationship between snow water equivalence (SWE) and SAR backscattering coefficients at Cand X-band (5.5 and 9.6 GHz) can be either positive or negative. Therefore, discovery of the relationship with an empirical approach is unrealistic. Instead, we estimate snow depth and particle size using SIR-C/X-SAR imagery from a physically-based first order backscattering model through analyses of t...

Iterative and Non-iterative Simulation Algorithms

The Gibbs sampler, Metropolis’ algorithm, and similar iterative simulation methods are related to rejection sampling and importance sampling, two methods which have been traditionally thought of as non-iterative. We explore connections between importance sampling, iterative simulation, and importance-weighted resampling (SIR), and present new algorithms that combine aspects of importance sampli...

Optical Phase Demodulation of a 10GHz RF Signal using Optical Sampling

For the first time we demonstrate sampling downconversion of a 10GHz phase modulated optical signal using an integrated coherent receiver with feedback. At a downconverted frequency of 100 MHz we measure 19dB improvement in SIR. ©2008 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: (060.1660) Coherent communications; (130.0250) Optoelectronics; (120. 5060) Phase Modulation

Empirical Studies on Methods of Crawling Directed Networks

Online Social Network has attracted lots of academies and industries to look into its characteristics, models and applications. There are many methods for crawling or sampling in networks, especially for the undirected networks. We focus on sampling the directed networks and intend to compare the efficiency, the accuracy and the stability between them. We consider the sampled nodes and links as...
